Science-Based, Mind-Body Healing — Without the Hype

Soft sunlight streaming through a forest canopy — symbolizing the brain’s natural ability to change, heal, and relearn its responses to pain.

Understanding Pain Reprocessing Therapy

Pain is real — and so is healing.

PRT is based on the neuroscience of neuroplastic pain: pain that’s caused because the brain and nervous system become sensitized over time. This can happen after an injury, illness, medical trauma, or even chronic stress.

This doesn’t mean your pain is “all in your head” — it just means your system may still be sending danger signals, even when there’s no longer a physical threat. Over time, the brain learns to expect pain — and keeps sounding the danger alarm.

PRT helps you retrain that response through:

  • Curiosity, not fear

  • Safety, not control

  • Connection to your body, instead of avoidance

Originally developed by Alan Gordon, LCSW and outlined in The Way Out, PRT has helped thousands of people reduce pain, reclaim movement, and feel more like themselves again.

In your free consultation, we can discuss your experiences with chronic pain (or other symptoms, too) and see if PRT is right for you.

You Might Relate If…

  • Your pain started “out of the blue” — or doesn’t match the scans

  • You’ve noticed your symptoms worsen with stress, fear, or social pressure

  • You feel stuck between “pushing through” and “shutting down”

  • You’ve been told it's “just stress” — and felt dismissed

  • You're tired of trying new providers only to hear the same answers

  • You’re curious about the mind-body connection, but want more than a wellness trend

PRT doesn’t promise a miracle cure. But it can offer relief, clarity, and a path forward that finally makes sense — in both your brain and your body.

What Pain Reprocessing Therapy Looks Like in My Practice

I integrate PRT principles into a broader therapeutic approach that includes:

  • Nervous system education and gentle somatic work

  • Cognitive-behavioral tools to address fear, perfectionism, or shame

  • Mindfulness and values-based reflection

  • Collaborative space for grief, frustration, and change

Sessions are never one-size-fits-all — we’ll go at a pace that feels safe and grounding. PRT is one lens we’ll use, but your whole story gets to come into the room. Let’s talk.

As a PSYPACT authorized provider, I am able to provide online teletherapy services to residents of participating states.

Maybe no one has ever explained your pain in a way that actually made sense — until now.
